Dear Parents and Guardians of Dallastown Area School District,
Recently, the State Board of Education’s revisions to its Chapter 4 regulations for academic standards and assessment were finalized. Consequently, graduation requirements for every student in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will be impacted, beginning with the class of 2017.
Graduation requirements to be implemented under Chapter 4 are as follows:
Class of 2017 and Class of 2018: Students must demonstrate proficiency on the Algebra I, Biology and Literature Keystone Exams.
Class of 2019: Students must demonstrate proficiency on the Algebra I, Biology, Literature and Composition Keystone Exams.
Class of 2020 and Beyond: Students must demonstrate proficiency on the Algebra I, Biology, Literature, Composition and Civics/Government Keystone Exams.
According to Acting Pennsylvania Secretary of Education, Dr. Carolyn Dumaresq, the Composition and Civics/Government Keystone Exams have not yet been created, nor has state funding been allocated. Our district will continue to monitor the development of these tests to make certain our students are well-prepared to meet their requirements.
In an effort to communicate a clear understanding of Dallastown Area School District’s graduation requirements, a summary has been prepared and is enclosed. Please feel free to contact the Dallastown Area High School Guidance Department at 244-4021, should you have any questions regarding these requirements.
Regardless of the presented changes, the vision of our district remains the same: Inspiring and creating pathways for student success. Please know we are fully committed to offering a unique school experience tailored to your child’s strengths and interests and that we value your support throughout the process.
Joshua A. Doll, Ed.D. Assistant Superintendent
