One of the themes of our Community Forum held January 2007 was "Multicultural Understanding and Awareness." As a result of the Forum and the increased diversity of the student population and school community of Dallastown Area School District, a "Diversity Committee" was formed in 2008 to study and to determine needs and initiatives for this goal. The Committee, now referred to as the Diversity Council, meets bi-yearly and continues to examine both quantitative and qualitative data from various district and community sources as it moves forward with the goal of achieving equity for all stakeholders in our educational organization.
Throughout the 2013-2014 school year, the Diversity Council developed an “Equity Model”. Consistent with the Vision and Mission of Dallastown Area School District, this framework promotes equity and excellence in our schools and serves as a guide to reduce and eliminate disparities for acceptance and achievement, and to promote access and opportunity for all populations.
It is the goal of the stakeholders of Dallastown Area School District to ensure that ALL students achieve high levels of academic success, regardless of their race, ethnicity, culture, country of origin, religion, gender, special needs, sexual orientation, neighborhood, or level of income. In an equitable and excellent school district, there are no persistent patterns of differences in the academic achievement or treatment of students and every student has equal opportunity to achieve at the highest levels.
